Soot burning coat (BMC)

The soot burning coat is a coating without precious metals that is also known as a BMC (base metal coating). The coating is applied to the particulate filter and lowers the necessary soot combustion temperature to approx. 420° C. Within certain ranges, our BMC is sulphur-resistant and can therefore be used in applications powered by sulphurous fuels, for instance in the shipping or power plant sectors.

If the natural temperatures of the exhaust gas are not sufficient for this form of regeneration, a HeliosFFB or E-Power thermal management system can be placed upstream of the DOC/DPF.

Active regeneration method:
Active regeneration is the only choice if the engine load is constantly low or remains low over a protracted period.

Catalytic burners: Fischer HC-Power
A catalytic pre-filter with a special coating is installed upstream of the particulate filter.
A regulated flow of diesel fuel (hydrocarbons) is fed onto this filter, which undergoes an exothermic reaction on the surface. The deposits on the particulate filter are therefore burnt off in a controlled manner at temperatures of > 600° C.

Electrical heating element:
Fischer Epower or SMF-AR® Electrical heating coils are installed in the exhaust system upstream of the PF or in a ring around the filter element to actively support regeneration of the PF. Without load, certain applications such as generators or diesel-electric drives will often fall short of the necessary regeneration temperature. The duration of the low load condition is often unknown or unpredictable, so the heating element installed upstream of the particulate filter will start in a pre-set exhaust gas temperature range. The heating element raises the temperature in two ways: firstly, the individual heating elements introduce heat into the exhaust gas; secondly, the load on the generator and the diesel engine is increased, which “passively” raises the exhaust gas temperature inside the engine. The heating element switches off again after a time “X” once a defined target exhaust gas temperature has been reached.
