Three-way catalytic converters (TWC)
Applications:
- Three-way catalytic converters are used in spark-ignition engines (petrol or gas) with lambda control and a stoichiometric fuel-air ratio (lambda λ=1) and virtually no residual oxygen (O2) in the exhaust gas.
Oxidation:
- Over 90% of the carbon monoxide (CO) is converted into carbon dioxide (CO2).
- Up to 90% of hydrocarbons (HC) are converted into carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O).
Reduction:
- Up to more than 90% of nitrogen oxides are reduced.
Coating:
- The coating of our catalyst support is usually made of platinum and rhodium. Palladium and barium are used less frequently.
